Being a criminal justice major, I study case after case about death row inmates and their last meal requests. While some are quiet interesting some are just your usual everyday eats. Below are some of the last meal requests for some of the most well known inmates in our nation’s history.
John Wayne Gacy was a killer and rapist who was convicted of sexual assault and murder of at least 33 young men in Illinois. After being sentenced to death in 1980, plans of his execution began. This also triggered the preparation of what his last meal would be. In 1994 at the Stateville Correctional Center, Gacy consumed his last meal of a dozen deep fried shrimp, a bucket of KFC chicken, french fries and a pound of strawberries before being executed.
Ted Bundy was a serial killer, rapist, kidnapper and necrophile who murdered and assaulted many young girls in the 70s. He denied many of the killings/assaults until he finally came clean and confessed of 30 homicides. He faced murder charges in many states but Florida is where he was set to be executed. In 1989 at the Raiford Prison, Bundy consumed his last meal of steak, eggs, hash browns, toast, milk, coffee juice, butter and jelly before being executed shortly after.
Timothy McVeigh was an american terrorist who denoted a bomb in front of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The attack killed 168 people and injured over 600. He was convicted of eleven federal offenses and was sentenced to death. In 2001 at the Federal Correctional Complex in Terre Haute, Indiana McVeigh had his last meal of two pints of mint chocolate chip ice cream before shortly being executed.
Due to us being law abiding citizens who wouldn’t dare commit the crimes that Gacy, Bundy or McVeigh committed, none of us have really thought about what our last meal would be but now I’d like to pick your mind. What would your last meal be if you were gone tomorrow? If it was because of a death sentence(Crime related) or if you were deathly sick? Would you eat something crazy or your favorite food?
My Last Meal:
If I were to be sentenced to death due to a crime or if I was deathly sick my last meal would be consisted of some of my favorite foods.
1) Sloppy Joes
2) French Fries
3) Gummy Worms/Bears
4) Diet Dr. Pepper
5) A Slice of Pizza preferably Buffalo Chicken Pizza
6) Pasta Salad preferably from Maryann’s Deli in Sumter, SC
7) Some Oreo Cookie Ice Cream
Like most inmates they have a huge amount of food before their deaths. I would also have as much food as I could possibly eat before hand.
This blog post is not supposed to freak anybody out. I looked up ideas for blog posts and I came across the idea of writing about your last meal, which gave me the inspiration to create this post. I hope you will share what would you eat as your last meal. I do not plan to commit a crime etc in order to achieve my last meal. This is just meant to be a fun post!
